If you’ve been in Kathmandu for a bit and are dying to get out of the city, but don’t have time for a trek or longer excursion, take a few days in Nagarkot! This was a great experience for both myself and my preschooler. We stayed in Club Himalaya, the high end hotel in this small town. We needed a night of pampering after having no running hot water in the place we were staying! The hotel has a pool (not heated), a hot tub, great food in large variety at all three meals, excellent service, and really nice rooms. The views are amazing and each room has its own balcony with a view of the Langtang Himalayan range. Costs were $105/night per room which included dinner and breakfast, and $5 for 24 hours of room wifi. There is a spa with its own pricing. You will have to rent a driver to take you to Nagarkot from Kathmandu, which can set you back $30-$50 and takes 1-2 hours depending on from which part of Kathmandu you start.

Playground
This rickety old post-apocalyptic playground was a huge hit with my kid, who was totally playground starved. By its sheer nature, it provided a challenging and interesting climbing structure…
Nagarkot Town
I’m not sure exactly what there is to do in Nagarkot. There are lots of little budget hotels, and restaurants that are very cheap. M truly enjoyed chasing the goats around, and we also had a good time relaxing on a scenic hill. Worth a walk around!
Wow, Nepal is a blind spot for us! And we thought we were world travelers!
